Holidays with the in-laws

OK my in-laws live out of state 2,433 miles away (5 hour flight, 3 hour time difference) so we take turns and stay home every other Thanksgiving and Christmas. We spent Christmas 2007 and this Thanksgiving with my husbands’ family.

Here’s my gripe: My brother in-law D and his wife S who lives a 3 hour drive away - have to spend Holidays with both families, S’s parents
live ½ hour from my in-laws. Unfortunately my Mother-in-law wants everyone to have dinner together so we have to wait to eat until they get back from S’s parents house so on Xmas we had dinner at 7:30pm which is 10:30 my time and on Thanksgiving we ate dinner at 6:30pm. Holiday dinners are supposed to be in the afternoon NOT SO LATE!!!!! Besides it’s very late for me since I’m still jet lagged and haven’t eaten in about 7 hours since a late breakfast except for some snacks and I’m very, very cranky by the time we eat.

I need to figure out a tactful way to discuss this besides saying why don’t we accommodate everyone else involved because the rest of us have to wait around all day for these 2 people to come back. Besides everyone was assigned something to make including myself (which I don’t mind because I like helping out) except for my bother-in-law and his wife – no assignment and they come empty handed and don’t even help with the dishes. S even had the audacity to ask my other sister-in-law M maybe you should do dessert now and preceded to sit on her ass socializing and not even help her put it on plates (my mother-in-law assigned thanksgiving at M’s house, although my husband’s sister and mother-in-law made the Turkey and all the trimmings).

Help Please!!

I would go out for lunch, rather than wait for them to show up AND I would drop hints, loudly and clearly, for the slacker to get off her ass and do some dishes.

JAMES FARERI:
I DONT HAVE A GRIPE, I JUST WANT TO COMMENT FROM TIME TO TIME.

THE BEDTIME RITUAL IS OVERRATED. GENERALLY SPEAKING CHILDREN FALL ASLEEP ON THEIR OWN. A FAIR TIME IS IS 8:00. ANYTHING BEFORE 8, YOU MUST USE YOUR ‘IM IN CHARGE VOICE’. YOU WILL FIND MOST DAYS THEY WILL FALL ASLEEP BEFORE 8. THE WATER THING IS CUTE. THESE LITTLE WIZARDS ACTUALLY THINK THEY ARE PULLING ONE OVER ON US. THE TRUTH IS THAT WE LOVE TO MAKE OUR CHILDREN HAPPY. IF NOT - LEAVE THE WATER BY THERE BED.

manipulation:
hysterical- any women that thinks they are manipulating isnt paying attention. here is the way it really works. keep in mind the husband must not be afraid of the wife. if thats the case than i call them yes men! the husband does what he wants when he wants to. its selfish, but fact. the key is if the husband doesnt really want to do something, or if it doesnt matter if the wifey-pooh says no, they ask- this is a tip! sorry boys!
ready? the crew want to watch the knicks at a bar. if we want to go- its “honey im going to watch the knicks tonight with the guys” if we dont, its honey can i go watch the knicks tonight? “no” ok sweetheart. “yes” thanks honey but i dont know if i want to go, we will see. read it and learn.

Hi, folks. My name is Frank (or MrSpock, because of my ears and my dream). I have started programming in 1984 and I work as a software developer now. I am both an old-school programmer (started with Pascal) and a new one (a child of the Internet era HTML, PHP) at the same time. I have basically lost a decade in the programming world. Losing the nineties is not as bad as it seems; I skipped the Windows era ;-)

My dream in life is to develop affordable space travel and space tourism. As a result I also love collecting space related photos. One of own personal problems is that I tend to become an expert of a subject very quickly, so I have to keep changing subject often in order to stay sufficiently ignorant :-) This is why I am interested in many topics and many languages. Fortunately space travel has so far proven to be so complex that it will keep my attention for a long time :-)

I’m usually more of just a lurker on the net but I’ll chime in when I feel I need to, looking forward to meeting everyone and being a part of the community! Well I won’t bore you guys and girls any longer, see you all around!
